Middle School years equip BIS students with greater independence and the confidence to manage academic challenges while continuing to feel supported through this journey. By the end of Grade 8, students are well prepared for secondary and high school and emerge as: Independent, curious and engaged, Compassionate and socially aware, Confident communicators, Balanced, Strong sense of self, Rooted in Indian culture, open to diverse global perspectives.
Learning is inquiry-driven, interdisciplinary and concept-based. Students are encouraged to ask questions, make connections across subjects and apply their understanding to real-world contexts. Teachers facilitate their classes such that curiosity is valued, discussion is encouraged and students are challenged to think independently and creatively. Alongside academic rigour, equal emphasis is placed on reflection and collaboration. The programme draws from the Cambridge Lower Secondary frameworks in English, Mathematics and Science while retaining flexibility and imagination that define education at BIS. (See Below for Subject Offerings)
Learning is shaped by inquiry, imagination and dialogue. Students are encouraged to think critically, challenge assumptions and explore ideas from multiple perspectives. Classrooms are dynamic spaces where teachers facilitate discussion, experimentation and collaboration and students are encouraged to ask meaningful questions.
Middle School students engage with a broad range of disciplines across humanities, sciences, languages, arts and technology before they begin to specialise in later years. The BIS programme values both academic excellence and balanced growth, ensuring students have time for creativity, relationships and experiences outside the classroom.
