Prioritising Student Wellbeing

Student Wellbeing

Creating a safe space that enhances & enriches our children's emotional health

Investing in student well-being is a priority for BIS. We have a robust Student Resource Centre (SRC) that runs various programs to support & nurture students, creating a safe space for the children.

The SRC has its doors open to children from Lower Prep (LP) all the way through Grade 12, through initiatives like well-being classes, circle time & one on one counselling. We have embraced SEE (Social Emotional Ethical) Learning as our over-arching theme, which fosters emotional, social as well as ethical intelligence in students.

SEE Learning is the culmination of an academic collaboration between Emory University & His Holiness the Dalai Lama.

Pajamas With a Purpose

Pajamas With a Purpose

Our Lower Prep students recently embarked on an enchanting evening filled with learning and adventure. They delved into the mysteries of day and night through hands-on experiments and observational walks. The evening’s highlight was camping in tents, where students roasted marshmallows, sipped on warm hot chocolate, and enjoyed a cozy pajama party. This unique blend of education and fun left everyone with glowing memories to treasure. As Aristotle said “For the things we have to learn before we can do them, we learn by doing them.”

The trip to Tilonia, Rajasthan, was a transformative experience. The students explored The Barefoot College, a remarkable blend of tradition and modernity, powered by solar energy and progressive values. They engaged in meaningful activities like making sanitary pads, solar lanterns, and compost, guided by the inspiring ‘Solar Mamas.’ Puppet shows, crafted and performed by students, spread messages of sustainability and waste management. Interactions with rural school students through cricket, art, and science created lasting bonds. Creative workshops like block printing and ‘Kabaad se Jugaad’ added a unique touch. This immersive experience fostered invaluable skills, empathy, and memories to cherish for a lifetime.

We were privileged to welcome Justice D.Y. Chandrachud, the 50th Chief Justice of India. The students engaged him in an insightful fireside chat, exploring his incredible journey, values, and monumental contributions to justice. The discussion touched on topics such as choosing public service over a legal career in the private sector, navigating biases and emotions while delivering landmark judgments, creating inclusive spaces in society, the right to privacy, LGBTQ+ rights, gender equality, and women’s advocacy. Justice Chandrachud’s powerful words left a lasting impression, inspiring students to consider lives dedicated to service and to act responsibly for a better future for India

The IB Diploma Program team organised a session where BIS alumni from various universities across India, shared their experiences and insights from life at university, and answered student questions as well. This was a valuable opportunity to hear firsthand perspectives on higher education in India, gain clarity on options students may be considering, and explore pathways that may align with their goals.
