With opportunities for every child to be on stage during class events, school events and later at inter-school events, there is a chance for all interests and talents to be showcased and celebrated. Beginning with class assemblies through the year and slowly moving on to language fiestas. Our students take the lead in our vibrant arts scene, designing, creating and performing in various shows and events. Our participation in inter-school events like Happy Place, Raell Padamsee Elocution, and NCPA’s Connections Program has been met with great enthusiasm.

BIS believes strongly in inculcating responsibility and the joy of giving back. Service Learning engagements with Pehlay Akshar, Muktangan and Victoria Memorial School for the Blind take place through the year across the various grades.
The children also conduct a lunch once a year in the school kitchen – planned and made by them for all the auxiliary staff at Gilbert. These practices that started small have become an uplifting experience for all.

Sports, like all other extracurriculars, are actively encouraged, supported, and facilitated at BIS. Physical education classes are a priority, featuring a mix of activities, including traditional Indian games. Coaching for basketball and football is available year-round. Annual tournaments are held for swimming, tennis, table tennis, basketball, squash, badminton, football and chess. Students also actively participate in various inter-school and national tournaments such as MSSA, ISSO, DSO and various tournaments across the city. Individual sporting ambitions are also encouraged and supported by the school. We truly believe that all work and no play makes a dull child, and sports provide a meaningful way for children to channel their energy, learn the importance of hard work and resilience, foster team spirit and honour their commitments.

The students at BIS have an opportunity to explore various languages like German, Spanish, Hindi and Marathi. In true BIS fashion, learning the language at school alone is not enough. The children have a chance to be part of immersive programs – Language schools in Spain, exchange programs with German Students in Stuttgart, Hindi language immersion trips to Varanasi and Landour, Mussoorie.

From Grade 4 on, the children go on “Edu Tours” that they greatly enjoy and look forward to. From exploring the crafts of Kutch to spiritual experiences at the Golden Temple and Dharamshala, adventure trips, camping in Karwar and connecting with nature in Pench, the children experience it all. These trips are mandatory for each class and their accompanying teachers.

For Grades 8-12 it is mandatory to be part of the in-house BIS MUN. We have our very own chair, assistant chair and press team each year bringing about spirited and exciting situations for the children to experience and build valuable skills. We also participate in Cathedral Model United Nations, Dhirubhai Ambani International Model United Nations, SIS MUN and the Harvard MUN which are great opportunities for our children to hone these skills.

Leadership plays a crucial role at BIS, as we believe in empowering our children to take initiative and drive change. Active elections are held for positions Middle School onwards, while a few leadership positions are appointed by the school, most are open for any child to stand for election and be voted in by their peers.
