Co-curricular Engagement
Learning is inquiry-driven and project-based, encouraging students to ask
questions, make connections and apply concepts. Teachers provide both
stretch and support, ensuring each student builds a strong foundation for
higher learning while cultivating curiosity and independence.
Middle School students engage in a broad and balanced academic programme that allows them to explore multiple disciplines before they begin to specialise in the
IGCSE years. The academic program is aligned with the lower secondary Cambridge framework for English, Mathematics and Science. (See Below for Subject Offerings)
Deliberate effort for seamless transitions ensures that middle school becomes the bridge that helps students leverage their learnings from the PYP and work towards readiness for the IGCSE and onwards.
Middle School lays a strong emphasis on co-curricular activities like sports, arts and life skills that are vital for exposure to the wider world and to help students to discover their potential. Educational trips and field trips expand the world for students and develop self-awareness and resilience. Understanding their privilege inspires them to give back through meaningful service learning. A wide range of co-curricular engagements such as Yoga, Physical Education, Dance, Drama further enrich their experience and nurture balance, creativity and empathy.
By the end of Middle School, BIS students are not only prepared academically for the IGCSE but are also confident, balanced and socially aware. They step into the next stage of their education with a strong sense of self, spirit of inquiry and values that will guide them through life.
