learning philosophy

Empowering Students the BIS Way

At Bombay International School, we believe in active learning that extends far beyond the classroom. Students engage in immersive hands-on experiences, experimentation, critical inquiry and practical application in real life contexts that cultivate skills and dispositions that foster intellectual curiosity and lifelong growth. We prioritize personalized learning pathways that encourage students to take charge of their own learning. As students aim for excellence across their academic, co-curricular and personal pursuits, members of staff strive to provide a supportive environment, teaching strategies that nurture individual strengths and ensure that every student achieves social, emotional and academic development.

Since our founding, BIS has embraced the values of the International Baccalaureate (IB) integrating its core philosophy into our educational ethos. The curricular framework provided by the IB has strengthened our commitment to holistic education enabling students to learn conceptually and transfer of learning across contexts. Through BIS’s unique pedagogy rooted in constructivism, students develop independent learning skills and resilient and agile mindsets to thrive in an ever-evolving world.  They are also encouraged to build their written and verbal communication skills along with dispositions to engage in rigorous research.

Our curriculum ladder is designed to guide students through each phase of their journey, equipping them with concepts, skills, knowledge and the courage and confidence to succeed and contribute thoughtfully to society. The integration of the Cambridge IGCSE Program in senior classes enhances  the growth of the learners as they become more responsible, reflective, innovative as well as engaged agents of change.

learning philosophy

The IB Programme focuses on developing resilient, self-motivated young people who have the knowledge, skills, and sense of purpose they need to thrive throughout their lives and contribute to making the world a better place.
