Heena Jaffer
Lead Instructional Coach - High School & IBDP
Heena holds a dual qualification, a Bachelor’s Degree in both Sociology and Psychology, and has worked extensively with adolescents. She has been trained in International Adolescent Education – a program conducted by the IIS London, and has been a core team member and faculty at the Aga Khan Development Network (AKDN) for over twelve years. She joined BIS in 2011 and has attended IB Psychology workshops, an ATL (Approaches to Learning) workshop, and several workshops on Instructional & Pedagogical leadership.
After teaching DP Psychology for 7 years, Heena has moved on to the role of an Instructional Coach – and has been working with teachers and teams since August 2018. Pedagogy has always been Heena’s passion – and she thrives on finding the balance between the art and science of teaching. One of the first proponents of the approaches to learning – Heena helped develop the Cultures of Thinking curriculum – a six month intensive action research project. Along with her colleague, she presented a paper on the same at the International IB Conference in Barcelona in 2016.
Heena is inspired by the links between neuroscience and education – and coupled with her creativity, training and experience – loves her job as Instructional Coach. When questioned about what it is that she appreciates most at BIS, Heena says, “Such a novel position could only have been crafted at a forward thinking institute like BIS! We are a dynamic and modern ecosystem – unique and magical.”
